Why Washing Machine Not Working Richmond Hill

It can come as quite a shock when you go to turn on your washing machine and it doesn’t start properly. It is even worse when you go to start it and it doesn’t start at all. While this can be quite disappointing, not all hope is lost. There could be a possibility that it needs to be replaced entirely, but in some cases it is just in need of a quality washer repair.

Regardless of what the end result turns out to be, we here at Alpha Appliance Services Inc. want to talk about the reasons why this might be happening so you can have a better idea on how to fix the problem at hand.

The Lights Don’t Turn On

When your washer is not starting one of the first things to look out for are the lights. In a lot of cases, a washer not turning on can be as simple as the power not being plugged in properly. When a washing machine moves around with a heavy load, it can be easy for a plug to loosen its way out of a socket, depleting a machine of its power entirely. If the plug is loose or has fallen out, simply plug it back in.

If the plug is secure but the lights still aren’t working, try plugging another electrical device into the socket to see if the issue is the socket itself. If it doesn’t work, the issue has to do with the socket and will need a repair. On the other hand, if the device you plugged in does work, it’s an issue with the washer and it will likely need a repair. Make sure to check the fuse first though; sometimes it will just need to be replaced. If your machine starts to work again after the fuse replacement, the issue has finally been sorted out!

The Lights Are On, But Nobody’s Home

What if your washers lights do turn on, but the cycle itself will refuse to start? The good news is that the issue likely has nothing to do with the power distribution, so you can check that off the list. The bad news is that it likely has to do with the appliance itself.

When washers are built, they are installed with a safety mechanism so they don’t start until the door is properly secured. This means that the issue can sometimes be as simple as a door interlock problem. The best way to test this out is by closing the washer door and waiting to hear a “click” noise when it closes. If you don’t hear a click, the door will likely have to be worked on. If it does make a clicking noise and it’s still not starting, it could be the sensor that detects the door that is defective. This issue will require professional help.
