Common Refrigerator Issues How Fix Them

A fridge is an integral part of nearly every household, as it stores your food and drink properly & safely. Even so, like any other appliance, your fridge can malfunction & come across certain problems, especially the longer it is used and the older it gets.

Luckily, there are ways to solve some of these issues. Whether it be through an appliance repair or an at home maintenance check, you can get your device working back to its full capacity. To learn about some of the most common fridge issues and how to fix them, check out what we have to offer at Alpha Appliance Services Inc. below.

My Fridge Is Leaking With Water

The main reasons that water will leak from your fridge are due to fridge door complications. This leaky water issue can see itself as a pretty big issue as it doesn’t just mess with the fridge, but can also impact the safety of the people walking within that slippery area as well.

In order to fix this issue, as we previously mentioned, the best thing to do is look at the door; specifically the door seals. If your door seals are damaged or your fridge doors are just not closing properly, your fridge will go into auto-defrost mode and cause the device to leak water. The next step when finding this issue is to either repair the doors closing system/seals on its own or, better yet, hire a repair company to do so.

My Fridge Is Full of Ice & Frost

Just like the previous section, this issue can also be due to improper doors/door seals. In other cases, the dial on your fridge that indicates what cold setting it’s at may be the cause for the extra frost and ice. In order to solve this issue, simply turn the dial down to a lower number and overtime, the fridge will become less freezing cold. If it is an issue with the door, however, repair services may be needed.

My Fridge Stinks!

A smelly fridge is never a fun thing to deal with, and this problem most commonly happens when your fridge is well overdue for a clean up. In order to get rid of that funky smell, sometimes all that you need to do is to get rid of any food that may have rotted inside your fridge unbeknownst to you.

If the smell is still there, it could be an issue with food & drink buildup on your shelves. To fix this problem, simply remove the food on your shelves, pull the shelves out from your fridge and clean them with soapy water or a diluted vinegar mixture. This will get rid of any of the debris/pesky bacteria on the surface of your shelves (remember to dry them before reinserting).
