Important Oven Maintenance Tips

Important Oven Maintenance Tips

Keeping your oven functioning at its best is important, and the best way to do this is by maintaining a certain quality of your oven over the years. Through regular maintenance and stove repair services (if needed), this appliance can function at its best for years down the road, and we here at Alpha Appliance Services Inc. would like to provide you with the proper advice to do so.

If Needed, Replace Range Burners

Burners can get quite messy after constant use, and because of this the performance of your appliance will eventually suffer as a consequence. If you notice red spots or blemishes on the burners coils, chances are it is time to replace them as they may short out and damage your oven, causing you to spend more money in repairs down the line.

Keep Oven Knobs Dry

The knobs that control the heat of your stove top/oven will likely have openings to the inside of your oven. When you’re wiping these knobs down with a watery cloth, the last thing you want to do is have that water seep into your oven and into the circuit breaker. To avoid dealing with an electrical short, be sure to turn off your breaker or unplug your oven before cleaning the knobs. Alternatively you can just use a dry cloth, or lightly spray a cloth with cleaner to remove any dirt or grime.

Clean Your Oven Regularly

When you have to deal with the ever changing schedule of your daily life, finding the time to clean your oven properly can be nearly impossible. When you do find a way to incorporate this step, however, your oven will thank you and this appliance will likely work more effectively than ever before. Overtime, gunk and grime affect the accuracy of your oven, the overall functionality of your oven and the safety of your oven. On average, two to four times a year is the recommended amount of times you should thoroughly clean your oven. In step-by-step form, this means:

  • Unplugging the oven or shutting off its circuit breaker: This will reduce the risk of electrical dangers when cleaning your oven with water/cleaner.
  • Wiping down everything: This includes the exterior, stovetop and the oven door gasket.
  • Scrubbing the inside of the oven: Using a degreasing agent or soapy water, scrub down the inside of your oven to get rid of all of the built up grime/burnt bits.
  • Soak burners in hot, soapy water: This will make scrubbing the dirt off of them easier.
  • Rinse and dry: Make sure every compartment is free of soap residue and, more importantly, make sure everything is bone dry before restoring power to the oven.
