When you turn on your dishwasher and find out that it has stopped mid-cycle, there is a good chance it could just be a fluke. If it happens every time you use your dishwasher, however, there is most likely something going on with your appliance that requires attention as soon as possible. We here at Alpha Appliance Services Inc. want to explain what those issues are, and help find out whether or not you will need an appliance repair service to get involved.
Faulty Electronic Control Board
The electrical panel is at the epicenter of your dishwasher. It is supposed to last for a very long time, usually the entirety of the time you are using said unit, but nothing is completely safe from damage/malfunction. If this is the issue as to why your dishwasher is stopping mid-cycle, you will also notice a myriad of other issues in your dishwasher as well.
Door Latch Issue
On most dishwashers, there is an indicator/switch on the door to indicate that the door has been closed and it is ready to start its cycle. This is considered a safety feature, to ensure the dishwashing process does not happen while the door is still open. If the door latch has broken during a cycle, the entire appliance will stop functioning. Your dishwasher can look like the door is completely closed, and everything is ready to go, but if the latch does not work none of that will matter.
Blown Fuse
If your dishwasher stops mid-cycle, and is not able to start back up afterwards, the issue could be that a fuse that has blown in the fuse box. One way to tell whether or not it is a blown fuse is by looking for the indicator lights. If they are still on/working, then the appliance has power and a blown fuse is not the issue. If they aren’t on, it is best to check your fuse box and see if this is the problem.
Pump/Motor Issues
Water pressure is extremely important to a dishwashers functionality. If the water pressure that is being given is not enough, then the appliance will not work properly. You can check if this is the problem by turning on your faucet/sink. If you find that there is little or no water running at all, this presents itself as the reason why your appliance has stopped working.
