Having a dishwasher clean dishes is something that families rely on every day of the year. As a matter of fact, in the US alone, over 89 million homes have a dishwasher. This is a crazy amount of families with dishwashers, and the number continues to increase as these machines become more advanced and efficient. With that number, we can’t even begin to imagine just how many homes in Canada have one as well.
When your dishwasher fails to clean your dishes effectively, this can be a serious detriment to how you go about your day. In order to determine why this is happening (and how you can fix it with an appliance repair), we here at Alpha Appliance Services Inc. want to explain everything you need to know about this problem.
Improper Loading
In every dishwasher, there will usually be a spout where the main source of water sprays from. While every machine will be different, this is true for many dishwashers. If you load your dishwasher incorrectly, and end up blocking this water source with a bowl, cup or otherwise, it will not be able to clean the other dishes in the machine effectively. When in doubt, load your dishwasher and push the rack inside to ensure that none of the dishes cover water/soap dispensers. If they do, make note of this spot and keep it clear whenever you run a cycle. If you notice that your dishwasher cleans your stuff properly now, your issue has been solved.
Blockage In The Dispenser
While most dishwashers do a good job of clearing this dispenser out, it is very common for this component to get blocked up. This can be due to food, cleaning products or otherwise, but regardless needs to be cleared out. Once you are able to properly clear this component out, run a cycle and see if this was the issue.
Another important thing to be aware of is how much product you will need for a cycle. While homes with soft water will require less detergent, places with hard water will need more soap to get rid of all the grime on your dishes. Make sure to not use too much, however, as an excess amount of soap can cause glassware damage.
Blocked Spray Arm(s)
While there will usually be other components that spray water and soap in your dishwasher (as previously mentioned above), spray arms will be another main component that performs this exact action. When these spray arms are blocked, however, they cannot properly dispense water and soap leaving your dishes dirty and grimy. The good news is that you can fix this issue by yourself with helpful resources online, including our blog post on how to fix a stinky dishwasher. If this seems like too much of a difficult job, or you simply don’t have the time to get it done, hiring an experienced appliance repair specialist is your next best bet.
