Electric Oven Not Heating

Ovens have been around for a long time, and are a great way to heat up food to its desired temperature. Way back in the late 1800’s, electric ovens were first introduced to the scene. Fast forward to today and they both look and perform exponentially different from their predecessors — maxing out in both efficiency and effectiveness.

When it comes down to it, no dinner is complete without the use of an oven. Regardless of what type of oven you use, it is at risk of not working as efficiently as before, or completely breaking down and not working at all. When this happens, you may begin to ask a lot of questions and wonder what the cause of the malfunction was. An oven repair is the best course of action in this situation, but it is always good to be aware of the problems yourself. Here at Alpha Appliance Services Inc., we would like to go over some common reasons why your electric oven may not be heating and what to do about it.

The Baking/Broiling Element is Burned Out

Have you put stuff into an oven that is on and noticed that the elements on the top or bottom part of the oven are not glowing? If you see that your elements are not glowing/brightening, chances are your element is burned out completely. You can figure out if this is actually the issue by looking at the elements for any breakage (when the oven is turned off). You can also use what is known as a multimeter to determine if the electricity is running through them or not, but it is best that this job is left with the professionals.

The Wire Connection is Broken

Sometimes when your oven is broken it could be as simple as a loose or broken wire connection. Sometimes, the wires near the element can get hot and burn out, causing a malfunction in the proper distribution of power. Most wires are visible to the eye without having to take everything apart so if you feel so inclined, investigate the oven to see if this is the issue.

The Thermal Fuse Isn’t Working

When an electric oven overheats and becomes too hot, the thermal fuse can blow out and mess with the wires in your oven. Certain oven models do not contain a thermal fuse, so this may or may not be the issue depending on what type of oven you own. Since the thermal fuse is located inside the oven, hiring an expert to investigate this part of the appliance is the best idea. Any interference with electrical parts and no proper experience can lead to an increased risk of injury and is considered a serious safety hazard.
