When you have a range hood in your kitchen, it becomes an extremely beneficial feature. Why, you may ask? Well, it vents out fumes from your cooking or otherwise, clears up unwanted odours and cools the area down when it’s gotten hot. With all of these advantages, it can be quite the nuisance when the fan on your range hood stops working. If you’re looking for reasons why this happens or are in need of a range & stove repair, we here at Alpha Appliance Services Inc. can help.
Power Issues
When too many devices are plugged into a specific area in the home, the socket can short circuit or become overloaded. If this happens and your range hood fan stops working as a consequence of this, simply unplug your devices in that area and flip the breaker. Before doing all of this, however, you can test the socket on its own to see if that is the issue. To do so, plug another device into the other outlet in the socket and see if the power transfers to it and it works. If it does not function properly, there is an issue with your socket.
A Blown Out Fuse
When you look at your circuit breaker box, do you see any melted metal or discoloured glass? If so, chances are your fuse is blown. You can use a multimeter to check whether or not this fuse has a consistent flow of electrical current, and if the meter shows the proper voltage everything should be okay and the issue is something else. If not, the fuse is blown and should be replaced by a professional.
Faulty Switches
The control panel in your range hood controls the fans functionality as well as the lights, so it is important that you make sure the switches on the range hood are working. When they are not properly connected/faulty, the electricity will not travel to the control panel and turn on the lights/fan. In this situation, just as the previous one, you can use a multimeter to test its current. If a current cannot be detected, replacement from an appliance professional is needed.
User Control/Display Board Issues
In a lot of range hood devices, a display board will be present on the front instead of switches so you can properly control the fan and lights. Sometimes, however, this board can stop functioning properly. If the fan either does not turn on or, alternatively, goes off at different speeds than you set it, chances are the user control board is bugged. Luckily, this can be fixed with the help of an appliance repair specialist (such as ours here at Alpha Appliance Services Inc.).
The Fan Isn’t Fastened Properly
When the fan isn’t properly screwed into its base it will not spin/operate properly. This also goes for the screws on the fans motor as well. In order to inspect the blades on your range hoods’ fan, simply unscrew the plastic housing of the blower and ensure that all of the fans blades are spinning at the right speed and smoothly. If there are any obstructions blocking the blades, there will be issues as well. Make sure to clear these obstacles so the fan can work at its best.
