Is your oven not heating to the right temperature? Maybe it’s struggling to heat up at all? These issues can be extremely frustrating and can have quite the hindrance on your everyday life. Your oven is an important part of your home, as it helps to cook many different foods for you and your loved ones. When it is not working properly, chances are you’ll need to schedule an oven repair. Even so, if you’re finding that your oven is not heating to the right temperature, we here at Alpha Appliance Services Inc. want to talk about the common reasons as to why this happens so you can better understand the problem.
Check Your Ovens Breaker
When you own an electric oven and this issue takes place, the first thing you will want to do is check the breaker. In many cases, the breaker can trip and all you’ll need to do is simply switch it back on. If your breaker switch will not return to its original “on” position and keeps going out, it is recommended that you contact an electrician to deal with the issue. In some cases, a broken breaker may mean that your household wiring has a shorting problem.
Look at The Oven Dials
If you have recently given your oven a clean and you removed the oven’s dials/knobs to do so, a dial can be faulty if not put into place properly. Be sure to check your oven’s dials and ensure that they are on the right way and placed in currently. This could very well be the reason your oven is not reaching the desired temperature/not heating up at all.
Look at Your Oven Doors Lever
When you own an oven with a self-cleaning feature, the door lever must be in the “unlocked” position before turning on the oven and using it. If the oven’s door lever is in the “locked” position, it will likely prevent the oven door from closing properly, letting all of the heat escape & resulting in an improper temperature.
Clean The Gas Igniter
Have you noticed that the burners in your gas oven are not igniting like they are supposed to? If so, chances are your gas igniter is either dirty or faulty. Look at your ovens manual to find out where the gas igniter is located and inspect it for either dirt or wear and tear. If it is dirty, look online to find the proper & safe ways to clean it (we recommend baking soda & water or vinegar & water). If it is faulty, it will likely have to be repaired/replaced, and this will require an appliance repair specialist.
Check The Temperature Sensor
Both electric and gas ovens have what is known as a temperature sensor. They can be located in a number of different areas on your oven and it is usually nothing more than some thin tubing. If your sensor is at any point bumped into or damaged, it will not work properly. If you notice that it is touching the wall of your oven, simply move it into its proper position. If this doesn’t work and the sensor is still being faulty, chances are you’ll need it replaced.
